Two kickboxers of Armenian descent Marat Grigorian and Giorgio Petrosyan scored major victories at prestigious kickboxing promotions, this past weekend.
Marat Grigorian, 28, an Armenian-Belgian kickboxer became the lightweight champion of GLORY Kickboxing in May of 2019, but he successfully defended his belt for the first time last Saturday by beating Tyjani Beztati at ‘Glory 69: Düsseldorf’ in Germany. Grigorian scored a knockdown in the 4th round and defeated Beztati after five three-minute rounds via Unanimous decision.
The next day Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan, 33, from Gorizia, Italy has been crowned as the champion of the inaugural ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix. The Armenian-Italian kickboxer won the tournament at “ONE: Century ” in Tokyo, Japan.
After three three-minute rounds Petrosyan scored a decisive victory over his Algerian-French opponent Samy “AK47” Sana. Petrosyan was declared the winner via unanimous decision and won US$1,000,000, the biggest prize in kickboxing history.
