Notice in the bottom left section Atropatene is a province of Medes to the south of Araxes river. No country named Azerbaijan exist on the map. The name “Azerbaijan” was borrowed and transformed from Atropatene (Aterpatakan) by Tatar Turks who established themselves in the lands of Albania many centuries later. A good example of how a nation is born from the ashes of another, borrowing elements from the surrounding.
