Yes it is Italian Art, yes it has been authored by Italian Artists, yes in Italy. However, all this did not happen by itself. Italian artists were not suddenly inspired by Armenian history nor the Armenian saints. Mekhitarist Fathers in Venice after the Napoleonic invasion of Italy had a boost by the Emperor and embarked avidly discovering the Armenian History, notably inspired by Fr Michael Tchamtchian’s Armenian History in 3-volumes.
